HAIRY TREES

During my internship at the German Technical Cooperation in Aleppo, Syria,
I worked on a project dealing with the local handicraft of cross stitch embroidery.
I tried to combine the industrial jacquard weaving process with a handmade finish.
The pattern for the stitches is already visible in the woven structure. On one hand
this helps to simplify the embroidery, on the other hand the industrial product
gains a more individual look. The pattern for the scarfs was inspired by old embroidered
costumes of the peasant population. My intention was to find new possibilities to
use an old, traditional craft in a contemporary context.
